The Fashion King!... Paul Poiret

The fashion King... designer, illustrator, craftsmen, businessman. You name it and he's probably done it. Paul Poiret changed the fashion world forever with his lampshade dresses and his oriental style coats.

I have recently written an essay on this great man. I didn't actually realise how influential he was until i did a bit of digging and found out some incredible things.

He was born into a good family and died in utter poverty. He was assistant to the most important man in fashion in the 20th Century, Doucet, at the age of only 19. He was accepted my some and turned away by others. He had a rollercoaster of a life.

He was fascinated by the theatre and ballets. He got given the opportunity to design costumes for some of his favourite shows and was living, what he thought was, the high life.

Showing off his designs in magazines such as the infamous 'Gazette du Bon Ton' and in his own catalogues.

He took the corset away and replaced it with loose fitting garments. Empire waistlines, fur neck jackets, kimono style coats.
Designers today such as Marc Jacobs and John Galliano are influenced my this Parisian King. He is and always will be known as the The Fashion King!

Bye..<3
